Former British pop star Gary Glitter has been convicted on child sex abuse charges for incidents dating back to the late 1970s.
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was convicted on four counts of indecent assault, one count of having sex with a girl younger than 13 and four counts of indecent assault, reports The BBC. He was acquitted of three other counts.
Gadd, 70, was accused of assaulting three young girls from 1975 to 1980 and police are still investigating the possibility that there are more victims.
During the trial, prosecutors said that one victim was under 10 when Gadd attempted to rape her in 1975. The victim claimed Gadd snuck into bed with her and she managed to escape by wrapping herself in a blanket. She said that she went to his mansion several times as a child.
The second victim was 12 when she claims Gadd attacked her after a show in 1977. The third victim was between 12 and 14 when she was assaulted in 1979 and 1980.
Gadd was first arrested back in October 2012 during the investigation into the late Jimmy Savile. He was charged with child sex offenses in June 2014.
“Crimes such as these have repercussions for victims that can last for a lifetime,” Chief Crown prosecutor Baljit Ubhey, head of the Crown Prosecution Service in London, said on Thursday. "The bravery of the victims and other witnesses in this case cannot be understated and their testimony has been vital in bringing Paul Gadd to justice."
