At first, it looked like Kanye West was finally ready to laugh at himself, but it turns out that wasn’t the case. He really does think that Beck should not have won the Album of the Year Grammy for Morning Phase.

When Prince announced that Beck had surprisingly won the night’s top award, West was seen racing to the stage after the “Blue Moon” singer. Beck - along with everyone else in the Staples Center - thought West was joking, making a reference to his infamous 2009 moment at the MTV VMAs. The audience chucked and Beck even motioned to West, trying to get him back on stage.

But it turns out that West was not joking and would have taken the microphone from Beck if he didn’t have any second thoughts. During an interview with E! After Party, Mr. Kim Kardashian insisted that Beyonce deserved to win the award for her self-titled album.

“I don't know what [Beck] said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more,” West said. “'Flawless,' Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.”

West insisted that Beck’s win somehow diminished art and was a smack in Beyonce’s face.

“Then they do this whole promotional event, they'll run the music over somebody's speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising,” West said. “Like, no, we not playing with them no more. By the way, I got my wife, my daughter and my clothing line, so I'm not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk but I am here to fight for creativity. That's the reason why I didn't say anything tonight. But you all know what it meant when 'Ye walks on the stage.”

West, who got to perform twice during the ceremony, clearly forgot two things. First, that Beyonce still won two Grammys. And second, that art shouldn’t need awards to feel validated.
