The Islamic State has released footage it claims shows a Jordanian pilot being burned alive.

The footage comes just days after the jihadist group, known as ISIS or ISIL, released footage of Japanese journalist Kenji Goto being beheaded.

According to the New York times, the full video released today showed Jordan’s involvement in airstrikes against the group, which have been led by the U.S. At the very end, First Lt. Moaz al-Kasasbeh is shown in a cage. A militant then lights flammable liquid with a torch, burning the pilot.

This is the first time ISIS has released footage of a captive being burned to death, as previous videos showed beheadings.

It’s not clear when the video was taken. As CNN notes, there had been talks between Jordan and ISIS about al-Kaseasbeh’s possible release in a prisoner exchange. However, a Jordanian military spokesman said after the video was released that al-Kaseasbeh was actually “assassinated” back on Jan. 3.

“We are aware of the video purporting to show that Jordanian First Lieutenant Moaz al-Kasasbeh has been murdered by the terrorist group ISIL,” Bernadette Meehan, a spokeswoman for the U.S. National Security Council, told the NY Times. “The United States strongly condemns ISIL’s actions and we call for the immediate release of all those held captive by ISIL.”

The 26-year-old Jordanian pilot was captured on Dec. 24 when his fighter jet crashed in northern Syria.
