When asked about the possibility of taking over The Daily Show, Joel McHale responded by saying he doesn't think he's intelligent enough to replace Jon Stewart.

McHale told Variety that despite the perception people have that he's smart he admits to not having the intellect to host The Daily Show. McHale added that he's signed a 2-year extension with E! to continue hosting The Soup.

According to Complex, another one of the main reasons McHale isn't pursuing The Daily Show job is because of the contrast in content between Stewart's show and The Soup.

“Jon Stewart deals with large, very important issues,” he said. “We obsess about the weirdoes on ‘The Bachelor’ who do ghost adventures and look for Bigfoot. So I think the show would not be up to the intellectual standards that everyone is looking for.”

McHale also praised Stewart's ability to find talent, specifically former correspondent John Oliver who has made appearances on McHale's show Community.
