Kanye West has been facing some criticism for his Grammys after show outburst, during which he reasoned Beck should give his Album of the Year Grammy to Beyonce.
West ran up onstage when Beck was accepting his award but decided against re-doing his 2009 MTV VMAs stunt he pulled on Taylor Swift.
Garbage’s Shirley Manson took to Facebook to publicly proclaim that it’s Kanye West who doesn’t “respect artistry” by acting the way he does.
“You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK,” she wrote.
Before pointing out Beyonce doesn’t need him “fighting any battles,” she wrote, “You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own. Grow up and stop throwing your toys around.”
KISS rocker, Paul Stanley, had a much funnier take on it, posting to his own Facebook page, suggesting Beck should’ve “kicked Kanye right in the nuts” when he stormed the stage.
Beck himself handled the situation with class, actually beckoning him to come back onstage to say something. He later called him a “genius” and admitted he thought Beyonce was going to win, too.
