Leonardo DiCaprio wants an Oscar so badly that he’s not even going to hide it any longer. So, he’s decided to play a character with multiple personalities, which the Academy has loved in the past, in The Crowded Room.

DiCaprio has considered playing Billy Milligan, who was diagnosed with 24 different personalities, since 1997. Now, the project is finally getting off the ground after 10 years of going nowhere.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be produced by DiCaprio’s Appian Way with New Regency. The Wolf of Wall Street actor will produce with Jennifer Davisson and Alexandra Milchan. It is based on Daniel Keyes’ 1981 book about Milligan.

The script will be written by Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzenberg, notes TheWrap.

Milligan was the first person to ever successfully use multiple personality disorder in court. In the late 1970s, he was charged with raping three women in Ohio. One of his personalities was Adalana, a lesbian who was responsible for the rapes. Milligan died in December 2014.

DiCaprio has been nominated for an acting Oscar four times in his career, but has lost each time. His most recent loss came last year after being nominated for The Wolf of Wall Street. He was also nominated for Best Picture as a producer on the Martin Scorsese movie.

The actor’s next movie is The Revenant, a New Regency film that teams him up with Tom Hardy and Birdman director Alejandro G. Inarritu.
