Mel Brooks has revealed his plans to produce a sequel to his 1987 comedy hit Spaceballs.

According to Time, Brooks was a guest on Adam Carolla's Take a Knee podcast when the director started talking about the prospect of writing a Spaceballs sequel sometime after the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The sequel to the Star Wars parody would be entitled Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, a reference to a joke made in the original film.

“If I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out, you know, maybe a couple of months later, Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, I’d have a big weekend no matter what even if it fell on its ass and didn’t get that money back.” Brooks said.

Inquisitr reports that Brooks is trying to reunite most of the original cast but will be without John Candy and Joan Rivers as both are now deceased. Brooks was also adamant about trying to get Rick Moranis to reprise his role as Dark Helmet and insisted that he won't shoot the movie without him.

The original Spaceballs became a cult classic in the 80's and grossed over $38 million upon its release.
