Milla Jovovich may be heading into the unknown. Deadline reported that the actress is in talks to star Myriad Pictures’ adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s In the Lost Lands.
A German-Canadian co-production, the film is expected to shoot in late 2015. Constantin Wermer wrote the script and is also set to direct. Justin Chatwin is already attached to co-star.
Published in 1982, In the Lost Lands is a collection of three interconnected short stories. One plotline follows the sorceress Gray Alys, who Jovovich is expected to play, who is sent by a city’s desperate queen to learn shapeshifting. In another thread, the warrior Sharra must fight a dragon to rejoin her lover Kaydar, but is seduced by a mysterious lord. Finally, in a futuristic tale, the barbarian Bitterblooms is entranced by a witch aboard a spacecraft.
George R.R. Martin’s work has been adapted to the screen before. His novella Nightflyers was made into a 1987 film, but his far more notable project, the HBO series Game of Thrones, is based off his A Song of Ice and Fire series. There is still no word out on when Martin will publish the sixth installment of the series, The Winds of Winter.
