Murder charges have reportedly been filed against the suspect in the case of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham.
According to WVIR-TV in Charlottesville, two independent sources have told the station that first degree murder charges have been filed against Jesse Matthew, 33, in connection with Graham’s death.
The Albemarle County Police Department and the Commonwealth's Attorney have scheduled a press conference for Tuesday morning when more details will be released.
Graham was a student at UVA and went missing in September. The 18-year-old attended an off-campus party with friends, but left the gathering alone and texted one of her friends hours later that she was lost. That was the last time anyone heard from her.
One month later, her remains were found and as NBC News noted, her death was ruled a homicide and Matthew was arrested. At the time, he was charged with abduction with intent to defile in connection with Graham’s slaying.
Matthew has plead not guilty to a separate sexual assault and attempted murder case from 2005. Authorities said he has also been forensically linked to a case involving Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.
Harrington went missing after leaving a concert at UVA’s basketball arena. Her remains were discovered in 2010 not far from where police eventually found Graham’s body.
