An off-duty sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed by a fellow law enforcement officer after responding to a call at a home in Nocona.
NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Sheriff Paul Cunningham said that Deputy Larry Hostetter, 41, was pronounced dead at an area hospital early Monday morning about an hour after he was shot. The other officer involved was not injured.
Few details about how the actual shooting occurred and why weapons were drawn have been released. The Texas Rangers are currently investigating the case.
While authorities did not release what type of call prompted the officers to go to the home, FOX4News reported that it was in response to a disturbance call.
"It's never any fun to go through any incident like this," said Nocona Chief of Police Kent Holcomb. "My officer's safe. Due to the integrity of the investigation, I can't comment any further."
Hostetter leaves behind a wife and three children. He has been in law enforcement for more than a decade and joined the sheriff’s department in 2013.
Cunningham expressed condolences to Hostetter’s family.
