While everyone's talking about who will win the Oscars this Sunday, one of next year's most-likely contenders has just announced when it's coming to theaters. Snowden, Oliver Stone's upcoming biopic with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, comes to cinemas everywhere on Christmas day.

Variety revealed the news, along with its new, likely official title. Production hasn't begun yet, but will soon start in Munich around mid-May.

This means Snowden now joins a variety of high-profile flicks which come baring gifts on the most famous holiday of the year. Others also include David O. Russell's Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence, the Will Smith-starring Concussion, Alvin and the Chipmunks 4, Monster Trucks and the Point Break remake.

Also starring Shailene Woodley as Snowden's long-time girlfriend Lindsay Mills, as well as Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Olyphant, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson, Snowden, of course, fictionalizes the events which lead to the media firestorm that came from Edward's actions.

These events were already brought to the screen in last year's Citizenfour, which could very well take the Best Documentary prize this Sunday.

Open Road Films produce this biopic alongside Stone's long-time producer partner Moritz Borman of Pathe Films.
