Authorities shot and wounded a gunman after he led them on a chase through the streets of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas.
The Associated Press reported that the whole thing started around 5:30 p.m. local time on Monday. The suspect allegedly carjacked a female while officers were in pursuit, veered into oncoming traffic, smashed into two other vehicles and ran down a crowded street before he was shot.
"He just came up to me and pointed the gun at me and told me to get out of my car, and he just took off with it," carjacking victim 22-year-old Elizabeth Yarahuan told KABC-TV. "He was pointing the gun at me so I just got off the car and ran. I was just scared he was going to hurt me."
In the video, the suspect can be seen first attempting to carjack the vehicle in front of Yarahuan’s, but it looked like he could not get the door open and the driver took off.
Several patrol cars were chasing the suspect when he exited the stolen vehicle after becoming lodged between two other cars.
He was shot multiple times, but survived. His name has not been released. He is described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 35-years-old.
