Live free or die is getting pretty difficult in New Hampshire with all the snow they are getting there this winter. So, a local police department wants to get their frustration out by arresting Punxsutawney Phil.
Back on Groundhog Day, the world famous Pennsylvania groundhog predicted that there would be six more weeks of winter. It’s the second year in a row that Phil has seen his shadow.
With that in mind, the Merrimack, New Hampshire police announced on Facebook Monday that they have issued an arrest warrant for Phil. They are really annoyed that Phil didn’t offer a clearer prediction about the mountains of snow being dumped on the region.
“We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty,” the police department stated. “He told several people that Winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow! If you see him, do not approach him as he is armed and dangerous.”
New England has faced three major snowstorms just since Jan. 27. Police Chief Mark Doyle credited Lt. Denise Roy with the idea for the warrant.
“We were chatting about how sick and tired we were, and she came up with the idea,” Doyle told the Associated Press. “Everybody is looking at it for what it is: a tongue-in-cheek, lighthearted look at the winter we're having in the Northeast.”
Thankfully, many other Facebook users also got the joke, adding funny comments on the post. “You have identified the wrong suspect. Queen Elsa is behind this weather,” one person wrote.
If they do catch Phil, hopefully he will lead them to the Boston Yeti.
