Filmmaker Richard Linklater just finished his 12-year odyssey Boyhood a mere year ago, but that won't slow the man down from making his next projects. As he puts the final touches on his next, That's What I'm Talking About, he enters discussion to helm an adaptation of Maria Semple's novel Where'd You Go, Bernadette.
As The Hollywood Reporter wrote, Linklater is in the works with Annapurna Pictures, the company who financed That's What I'm Talking About, to get in the director's chair for the new film. This should be encouraging news for Linklater's latest, a continuation, spiritually, of both Boyhood and Dazed and Confused which hopes to be released by Paramount later this year. Quite possibly as another awards contender for Linklater.
Written for the screen by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, two of the best screenwriters in Hollywood at the moment based on their 500 Days of Summer screenplay and works adapting The Spectacular Now and The Fault in Our Stars, Where'd You Go, Bernadette focuses on Bernadette Branch, a mother and agoraphobic architect who disappears before her family plans to go to Antarctica. The novel is narrated by her daughter, 15-year-old Bee. Semple's book spent 72 weeks on NPR's paperback fiction bestseller list.
In addition to Megan Ellison from Annapurna, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson (The Hunger Games) of Color Force also produce. This is just one of multiple projects Ellison has in the works with her well-acclaimed company. Others include The Bad Batch, Ana Lily Amirpour's follow-up to A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Seth Rogen's R-rated animated film Sausage Party, Todd Solondz's (Welcome to the Dollhouse) Weiner-Dog and Alexander Payne's Downsizing, starring Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon, just to name a few.
