Rosamund Pike, whose acclaimed performance in Gone Girl earned the film’s only Oscar nomination, is reportedly in talks with Fox to star in The Deep Blue Good-by. The project already stars Christian Bale.
The casting was first reported by Variety. She would play the female lead in the potential franchise-launching film.
The Deep Blue Good-by is the first of 21 books by John D. MacDonald about Travis McGee, a womanizing “salvage consultant” who will find missing property for a fee. Bale will play McGee after joining in July.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who was at one point going to play McGee, is still on as a co-producer with Jennifer Davisson-Killoran for his Appian Way. Chernin Entertainment is co-producing the Fox film.
Dennis Lehane (Mystic River) wrote the script. Scott Frank (Out of Sight) wrote a recent draft.
Pike has been working in Hollywood for years, but finally earned her big breakout role in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. The film grossed over $350 million and was also made at Fox.
In addition to Deep Blue, Pike will make The Mountain Between Us with Charlie Hunnam.
