Considering the instant success of Neighbors last year, it was only a matter of time before Universal announced a sequel. The studio managed to get the main players in the film back for Neighbors 2, including Seth Rogen and Zac Efron.

Rose Byrne is also expected to return. The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that director Nicholas Stoller and writing team Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien will return as well.

Neighbors starred Efron as a member of a fraternity house that married couple Rogen and Byrne are stuck living next to. While Rogen and Byrne try to have a normal life, they are constantly clashing with the fraternity and their partying ways.

The first R-rated film only cost $18 million to make, but grossed $268 million worldwide. It grossed $51.1 million in its debut weekend.

Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver will produce under their Point Grey Pictures, along with Good Universe.

This is actually Rogen’s first big deal since Sony’s The Interview debacle. He’s currently filming Steve Jobs for Universal.

As for Efron, Neighbors allowed him to completely reinvent his career. He’s lined-up more raunchy comedies, including Bad Grandpa with Robert De Niro and Fox’s Mike And Dave Need A Wedding Date.
