Six people are dead following a collision with a Sports Utility Vehicle and commuter train in New York.
Reuters reported that the accident occurred during rush hour on Tuesday evening in White Plains when the Metro-North train struck the vehicle.
At first, officials tallied the death toll at seven but that number was later reduced to six.
The Journal News noted that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the deceased included the driver of the SUV and five people aboard the train.
"The number of deceased in the train itself dropped from six to five, so that was actually good news," said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
However, he added that more than a dozen other passengers on the train were injured, seven of them seriously.
An MTA spokesman said that thousands of riders will be affected as parts of the line will remain closed Wednesday.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident.
White Plains is in Westchester County, which is located just over 20 miles outside of Manhattan.
