Sony Pictures Classics has gained the Latin American and North American rights to the German film 13 Minutes from Beta Cinema.

The film, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, is currently playing in competiton at the Berlin Film Festival. Deadline reports that 13 Minutes will mark the sixth collaboration between Beta Cinema and Sony Pictures Classics.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 13 Minutes tells the story of Georg Elser, a man who created a bomb in an attempt to assasinate Adolf Hitler but was 13 minutes away from being successful. Hirschbiegel also directed Downfall, the Oscar-nominated Hitler film and 13 Minutes marks the director's return to Germany.

"60 years after the end of WWII there continues to be extraordinary stories from that period, and 13 Minutes is one of those stories," said Sony Pictures Classics. "Oliver Hirschbiegel is a gifted storyteller, whose film we are proud to bring to the public."

The deal was negotiated by Beta Cinema’s Managing Director Dirk Schuerhoff.

13 Minutes stars Christian Friedel, Katharina Schuttler, Burghart Klaussner, and Johann von Bulow.
