Steven Spielberg is not only one of Hollywood's most prolific filmmakers, but also one of its most consistently working ones as well. Already knee-deep in two films, the Lincoln director may already have his third lined-up and ready to be in front of cameras this year: Thank You For Your Service.
The Daily Mail reports the filmmaker, while already in post-production on his Tom Hanks-starring untitled Cold War spy thriller and pre-production on his Roland Dahl adaptation of The BFG, is set to direct Thank You For Your Service later this year.
Considering how Spielberg plans to have his Cold War film finished by October 16 and production on his other film — which includes lots of VFX shots — commences throughout the spring and summer of this year, it'll be quite a feat if he can get all three of these films accomplished in the span of 2015. Especially with these three films being in addition to the tons and tons of projects Spielberg churns out as a producer.
Written by Jason Hall (American Sniper, a film Spielberg was also once set to direct as well), Thank You For Your Service will follow how veterans who return home from Iraq and Afghanistan deal with their PTSD. It is based on the book of the same name by David Finkel.
This is not the first time Spielberg has been attached to this project. It was actually mentioned back in 2013 as a possible reunion for the director and his Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis, but word on Thank You For Your Service has been quiet until now. If the respected three-time Oscar winner is still attached is uncertain. When hearing Spielberg's ideas for where he wanted to take American Sniper is conjunction with Chris Kyle's PTSD and inner struggles, it's very likely there's a great film to be made here under Spielberg's watchful eye.
