Chris Kyle’s legacy will live on forever not only with Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper but also “Chris Kyle Day” in Texas.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has named today, Feb. 2 a holiday to remember the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history.
Abbott told Fox News he made the decision based on Kyle being “an American hero.”
“He had the guts to stand up and defend this country,” he continued.
At noon on Monday, Abbott will officially sign the declaration for Chris Kyle Day in Austin. On Friday, he revealed the news at the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention in the same Texas city.
“In honor of a Texas son, a Navy SEAL and an American hero – a man who defended his brothers and sisters in arms on and off the battlefield – I am declaring Feb. 2 Chris Kyle Day in Texas,” he said during the speech, KWTX reports. “We will commemorate his passing. But more importantly, remembering his answering of the call of duty.”
Meanwhile, American Sniper has now broken a record for the biggest Super Bowl weekend gross, making $31.85 million. The film is up for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
