The ill-fated TransAsia Airways Flight GE235 experienced engine trouble before crashing in Taipei, Taiwan earlier this week.

CNN noted that on Friday Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council said that the aircraft experienced problems with both engines before the plane clipped a taxi and plunged into a river.

Investigators said that one engine on the ATR 72-600 turboprop plane lost power as it was reaching an altitude of 1,200 feet and then the other, which had been operating normally, cut off.

The pilots did issue a mayday announcing the trouble.

A thorough analysis on the crash and moments leading up to it will be conducted using the flight’s data recorder and cockpit voice recorder.

As previously reported, video showed the plane nose-up between buildings, clipping both a vehicle and overpass and then crashing in the Keelung River. Of the 58 people on board, at least 35 are now confirmed dead and several are still missing. Most of the victims were Chinese tourists.

The flight was bound for the Taiwan island of Kinmen.
