The trial for a Maine man accused of luring a girl to her death via Facebook began on Monday.
The Associated Press reported that opening statements began in the trial of Kyle Dube, 21, who is accused of killing 15-year-old Nichole Cable in 2013.
WBAIpreviously noted that Dube is accused of using a fake Facebook profile to lure the teenager out of her house. Prosecutors said that Dube wanted to kidnap Cable then rescue her to be recognized as a hero, but something went wrong and he allegedly killed her.
She was strangled to death and Dube was charged with kidnapping and murder. He has plead not guilty to each.
An investigator testified that when the suspect turned himself in for another crime he allegedly police, “It’s what I’ve done that they don’t know I’ve done that I’m worried about.” However, his attorney has said that the statement was not made voluntary during police interviews.
The trial, which gained a lot of publicity in Maine, should last about two weeks.
