Authorities said that a 14-year-old boy in Port St. Lucie, Florida allegedly tried to hire a classmate to murder his family.

NBC News reported that the teenager was taken into custody after his father found a note in his son’s bedroom allegedly detailing plans for another teen to kill his relatives.
Police said the note read like a “murder-for-hire contract” in which the boy offered his friend $1,200 to kill his father, stepmother and stepbrother.

According to the Washington Post, the note allegedly read: “I [name redacted] will be hitman for hire for [name redacted] to murder [names redacted]. I am aware that if I do not go through with it I will not get paid. Money in question we agreed upon was 1200 dollars. I will leave in an hour or two within the murder.”

When the friend allegedly involved in the plot was questioned, he told investigators that he thought it was all a joke so he just signed the paper.

The teen accused of trying to solicit the murder is currently being held at a juvenile detention center.
