Seven people were injured when a chairlift malfunctioned Saturday at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.

WCVB reported that the injuries occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the King Pine Quad lift when the chairlift stopped and then operated in reverse. More than 200 passengers were riding the lift at the time and were evacuated.

“All guests with injuries have been treated by ski patrol and are being transported off the mountain,” said Sugarloaf spokesperson Ethan Austin.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

It is not yet clear what caused the lift to malfunction, but Austin said it receives daily safety inspections as well as weekly, monthly and annual maintenance. The chairlift is also subject to inspection and testing by the Maine Board of Elevator and Tramway Safety.

The Bangor Daily News noted that in 2010, more than eight people were injured on the same mountain when there was an issue with the cable that holds the chairs up. That accident sent several cars crashing to the ground.

Sugarloaf is located in Carrabassett Valley in western Maine and welcomes thousands of skiers every year.
