A healthcare worker in Nebraska, who worked in West Africa, has tested negative for the deadly Ebola virus.

Reuters reported that the patient was one of more than a dozen other healthcare workers flown back to the U.S. to be monitored for symptoms after possibly being exposed to the disease. The individuals were all said to have had contact with an infected party.

The person in Nebraska fell ill last Sunday and was admitted to a biocontainment unit at Nebraska Medicine. On Thursday, the hospital announced that the test for Ebola came back negative.

All of the workers will continue to be monitored for symptoms over the next 21 days.

The Ebola virus has crippled the West African nations of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since the outbreak began early last year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that virus has claimed the lives of more than 10,200 people. Of those deaths, only 15 occurred outside of the three countries.
