Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, who stars in Netflix’s Bloodline, is reportedly circling the lead male role in Star Wars: Rogue One.
Mendelsohn’s interest in the project was first reported by Deadline, as well as The Hollywood Reporter. It’s not clear if he is actually in talks for a role or if he is just “circling” the part. Of course, Disney and Lucasfilm would not comment on the reports.
Rogue One is set to star Felicity Jones and will be directed by Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards. Alexandre Desplat was reportedly hired to do the score and the script is being written by Chris Weitz.
Mendelsohn cut his teeth in Hollywood as a character actor, mostly in villain roles, like the one he had in The Dark Knight Rises. However, he’s started taking larger roles in films like Killing Them Softly, Exodus: Gods and Kings and Jude Law’s Black Sea. He appeared in two Sundance movies this year - Slow West with Michael Fassbender and Mississippi Grind with Ryan Reynolds.
Hf also currently stars on Netflix’s Bloodline and is earning rave reviews for his performance on the show. His co-stars include Kyle Chandler and Linda Cardellini.
