Between last year's The Skeleton Twins and this year's upcoming Trainwreck, Bill Hader well established himself of late as an actor. With that, he joins one of Hollywood's most distinguished filmmakers on his next project, as Hader signs on to Steven Spielberg's upcoming Roland Dahl adaptation The BFG.
Hader comes onto to the film to play one of the giants who helps the little girl protagonist as she leads one particular giant, the BFG, on an adventure to stop other giants from gobbling people up, Deadline reports. Production begins later this year in Vancouver.
Hader is just one of the actors announced to star. Set to play the lead is newcomer Ruby Barnhill, while Tony Rylance plays the titular character. Word on who'll play the other characters shall come as The BFG picks up steam.
The BFG reunites Spielberg with his E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison, which coincidentally came out the same year Dahl's book did. Spielberg also produces the movie alongside Frank Marshall and Sam Mercer. Kathleen Kennedy, John Madden and Michael Siegel, meanwhile, are executive producers and Kristie Macosko Krieger and Adam Somner are co-producers.
The BFG is one of several films Spielberg has in the works at the moment. He currently finishes up post-production on his Cold War film Bridge of Spies, set for an Oscar-friendly October 16 release. Then once he makes his BFG film, he's slated to helm Ready Player One for Warner Bros.
After that, Spielberg's got quite a few choices as always, including Thank You For Your Service, It's What I Do, starring Jennifer Lawrence, and a possible Indiana Jones reboot with Chris Pratt.
Hader, meanwhile, also lends his voice to Pixar's Inside Out on June 19 and The Good Dinosaur later this year. He'll also soon give his voice to Angry Birds and Seth Rogen's animated R-rated comedy Sausage Party. He also filmed a role in Maggie's Plan. Hader was recently seen in Accidental Love and in the pilot for Man Seeking Woman as none other than Adolf Hitler himself.
