Authorities have said that a body pulled from a New Jersey river is that of missing Wall Street Journal reporter David Bird.

PIX11 reported that the body pulled from the water has been positively identified by the Medical Examiner’s office through dental records.

"At this time, the Medical Examiner's investigation into the cause and manner of death is ongoing," the Morris County prosecutor’s office said.

Bird mysteriously went missing over a year ago after he left his home to go for a walk.

Crews had searched for the 55-year-old since his January 2014 disappearance, but came up empty and bad weather hampered some of their efforts.

Reuters noted that on Wednesday, however, two men canoeing spotted human remains and a red jacket the reporter left his house wearing.

After receiving the gut-wrenching news, Bird’s family thanked law enforcement for all their hard work in trying to find him. They also asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Bird was an energy-markets reporter for the Journal. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
