DC Comics and Warner Bros. will have to recast Green Lantern for its new cinematic universe of course, to make sure everyone forgets about the Ryan Reynolds movie. Among the stars on the top of the list to replace him is reportedly Chris Pine.

The rumor was posted by Latino Review on Instagram, noting that Pine is being considered for the part. Even they point out that it is just a rumor, so there’s no official confirmation.

It sounds like a report from Captain Obvious, though. Of course, Warner Bros. would want Pine to star as Hal Jordan in the new Green Lantern movie. He showed that he can play a sarcastic character in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies. However, he does have one blemish on his resume - Paramount’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which flopped. Still, Pine is well-known enough from the Trek movies to get another shot at a franchise role.

Warner Bros. does have to get its act together on the Green Lantern casting. The character would have to make his first appearance in Justice League Part One, which is due out in 2017. The solo movie is scheduled for 2020. If he’s supposed to appear in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he probably would have been cast by now.

The Reynolds-starring Green Lantern movie flopped and Reynolds clearly doesn’t intend to play the character again. He’s currently busy with Fox and Marvel’s Deadpool.
