Over two years after he started working on his return to television, Hot Tub Time Machine’s Craig Robinson is finally going to be back. It’s probably not premiering when he expected though.
On Thursday, NBC announced that Mr. Robinson will finally debut on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 9 p.m. In the series, Robinson stars as a struggling funk band leader who gets stuck teaching music to earn a living. Peri Gilpin (Frasier) stars as the school principal. It was written by Mark Cullen and Robb Cullen (Back in the Game) and is based on the former Office star’s real-life experiences teaching music.
NBC began developing the project back in January 2013, but didn’t order a pilot until a year later.
Mr. Robinson will be paired with The Carmichael Show, starring Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors), at 9:30 p.m.. David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine co-star as Carmichael's parents.
The second season of Greg Poehler’s Welcome To Sweden will air on Sundays, beginning on July 19 in hour blocks at 8 p.m.
New reality shows announced include Bear Grylls’ The Island (starting on Monday, May 25 at 10 p.m.) and the Marlon Wayans-hosted I Can Do That (Tuesday, May 26 at 10 p.m.).
Food Fighters returns on Thursday, July 2 at 8 p.m. and Hollywood Game Night is back on Tuesday, July 7 at 10 p.m. Running Wild With Bear Grylls begins on Monday, July 13 at 10 p.m. and, lastly, Last Comic Standing begins on Wednesday, July 22 at 9 p.m.
Earlier this month, NBC scheduled America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior and Aquarius for May premieres. Hannibal begins on June 4.
So it looks like if there’s nothing to watch this summer and you like reality shows, NBC is the place to go.
