Disney is reportedly hoping to bring to life another one of its animated classics. This time, it’s Mulan.

Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek wrote a new script based on the legend of Hua Mulan and Disney bought it, reports The Hollywood Reporter. We’re The Millers producers Chris Bender and J.C. Spink are set to produce.

The 1998 animated film is based on the Chinese legend about a young girl who decides to fight in her father’s place in war to help defeat the Huns with the help of her dragon sidekick Mushu. It was directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook at the tail-end of the Disney Renaissance. While not as beloved as other Disney ‘90s movies, it has its fans and was a hit when it came out. Jerry Goldsmith’s distinctive score was even nominated for an Oscar.

Disney just saw Cinderella become a smash hit, earning $336.2 million internationally so far. Alice In Wonderland passed $1 billion in 2010 and last year’s Maleficent made $758.4 million worldwide.

Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book are both in development, as is a live-action Dumbo Tim Burton will helm. At least Mulan has major human characters, unlike Dumbo.
