Today it has been confirmed that the new Disney live-action film,Cinderella lived up to predictions that were made that the film would top the box offices this weekend and would make close to $70 million. Just like magic, the film beat out its box office competitors and made an impressive $70.1 million dollars its opening weekend in the United States.
According to Business Insider, Cinderella has already grossed $132 million worldwide. They also pointed out that the only two other March Disney films that have done better at opening weekend were Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and Oz the Great and Powerful.
The film itself has not only been drawing in the die-hard Disney fans who know and love the classic 1950s film, but it is also drawing in children, boys and girls, and even people who are fans of the two main actors, Lily James (Downton Abbey) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones). Although many may think the film is just the same retelling of the classic story, this live-action film actually adds so many new layers to film by introducing back stories and adding character plots that weren’t in the original animated classic.
The BBC states that Cinderella is following the success of last year’s live-action Maleficent and Into The Woods.
It seems that the live-action theme of bringing classic animated characters and movies to life will be Disney’s next great adventure as it has already been announced and confirmed that Beauty and the Beast will now be a live action film to be released March 2017 and starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter) and Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as the beauty and the beast.
Live adaptations of the classic films The Jungle Book and Dumbo are said to be in the makings as well, along with a sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.
All in all, Cinderella is perfectly positioned to be on the top of the box office charts for some weeks to come, and deservedly so. Whether you are taking your family, going on a date night, or going out with your friends, Cinderella will enchant and delight all.
