According to Dylan O'Brien, the rumors that he's been selected as the next actor to play Spider-Man are just rumors.
Yahoo reports that in an interview with Buzzfeed O'Brien said he was surprised to hear his name mentioned as a candidate for the now vacant role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. While he mentioned that no one had been in contact with him about the part, the star of The Maze Runner admitted that he was flattered just to be up for consideration.
“It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing."
Speculation began when Robert Downey Jr. revealed that Marvel would make a big announcement on March 6. Marvel is reportedly in search of an actor to play a high school aged version of Spider-Man. Other rumored frontrunners include Fury actor Logan
Lerman.
The studio could make an annoncement soon as Spider-Man is rumored to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Captain America: Civil War makes its way to theatres on May 6, 2016.
