Fifty Shades of Grey has been known to leave some women hot and bothered, but is it really necessary to ban the consumption of alcohol while watching it in theaters?

Apparently the Idaho State Police's Alcohol Beverage Control thinks so. The ABC has contacted theaters in the state, asking to ban the sale of alcohol for that specific movie.

Last week, a sign was posted outside a theater door at Village Cinema in Eagle, Idaho, which stated, “Idaho law restricts us from serving alcohol or allowing its consumption in auditoriums showing 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' "

One moviegoer who saw it, Michele Williams, told The Idaho Statesman, "I was not drinking or wanting to drink. I just found it odd that this movie was singled out. I just thought, 'What year am I living in here? Women can't control themselves when they drink during this movie?' I don't know what the message was."

The AP reports there is a statute that was passed by the state’s lawmakers in 1999 that bans alcohol consumption during movies of explicit nature, and the ABC believes Fifty Shades falls under that category.

Any theater that doesn’t comply with these rules are subject to a fine of $300, six months in jail and their liquor license being suspended.

Fifty Shades of Grey has so far made $500 million at the worldwide box office.
