Like her uncle, KIng is a minister and activist. She currently works as Director of African-American Outreach at Priests for Life. Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes praised King for her passion and dedication to social change.
"Alveda has brilliantly carried the legacy of the King family to the next generation and has been a source of inspiration for many Americans," Ailes said in a statement.
According to Yahoo News, King has gained notoriety for her pro-life stance on abortion. In 2010, she spoke at a rally in Washington organized by conservative political commentator Glenn Beck. In the past King has called herself a Democrat and Republican but now only considers herself as Christian.
King's hiring comes in time for the 50th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" in which civil rights protesters led by Dr. Martin Luther King were assaulted by police in Selma, Ala.
