If those critics who went to Sundance this year really know their stuff, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a soon-to-be huge crowdpleaser. Fox Searchlight apparently wants to take advantage of this sooner-than-later, as they've moved up the film's limited release from July 1 to June 12.
The initial July release came out late last month, while this new release date comes from Slashfilm. There's still no word from Fox Searchlight, however, on when they plan to expand the release past this point.
As the winner of both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award, a feat Oscar-winner Whiplash also accomplished in 2014, many believe Me and Earl and the Dying Girl has a strong chance to be awarded at next year's Academy Awards ceremony.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl stars Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, Jon Bernthal, Connie Britton and Nick Offerman. Based on the book of the same name by Jesse Andrews, the film centers on an shy high-schooler (Mann) and the surprise friendship he forms with a severely-ill classmate (Cooke).
