Hugh Jackman shared his thoughts about the possibility of Wolverine appearing in a movie alongside the Avengers.
In an interview with Yahoo, Jackman said he thinks the chances are strong that the X-Men mutant will one day team up with Iron Man and Captain America on the big screen. Jackman noted that the recent deal between Marvel and Sony to include
Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given him hope to see Wolverine join as well.
"Two years ago I’d have said you’d be a real optimist to think it’d ever happen, but weirdly now I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen," Jackman said.
20th Century Fox acquired the film rights to X-Men back in 1994 and no characters from the series have appeared in a Marvel Studios film. If Wolverine were to join the Avengers, a similar agreement would have to be done.
IGN reports that when asked about which Avengers member he'd like to see Wolverine team up with the most, Jackman chose Iron Man. Jackman added that he would only do it if Tony Stark were playing the role because he can't picture anyone else doing it.
Until a deal is reached, fans of X-Men can look forward to seeing mutants Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron as the characters exist in both universes. Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theatres on May 1.
