Jeremy Renner is in no shortage of work, but that doesn't stop him from adding new films to his CV. The first is a very familiar project, Captain America: Civil War, while the other lets the actor stretch his acting chops with his American Hustle co-star Amy Adams in Denis Villeneuve's Story of Your Life.

Both casting updates come from The Hollywood Reporter. A sci-fi drama adapted from Nebula and Ted Chiang, Story of Your Life has Renner signed on to play the male lead, a physicist who helps Adams character in her mission. Adams and Villenueve joined the project last April.

The new film from the Prisoners director tells the story of an expert linguist (Adams) hired by the military to determine if a newly landed aliens come to various places around the Earth are friendly or a threat. In doing so, her character receives flashbacks which may be the key to finding out the mystery of why these lifeforms landed here. Eric Heisserer (Final Destination 5) wrote the screenplay for producers Glen Basner of FilmNation, David Linde of Lava Bear Films and Shawn Levy and Dan Levine of 21 Laps.

Production on Story of Your Life is scheduled for mid-June, which means Villenueve could have two films released in a year's time as his latest, Sicario, hits theaters on September 18. The filmmaker is also attached to make that Blade Runner sequel too.

Before Renner gears up to shoot this film, however, he'll also appear in Captain America: Civil War as his Marvel superhero Hawkeye. He joins Chris Evans, Scarlett Johnansson and Robert Downey Jr., which makes this something ofa mini-Avengers reunion, as well as Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl and whoever plays Spider-Man. Filming begins this spring.

Renner next will seen as Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, then appear in Mission: Impossible 5 on July 31.
