Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be starring in and producing the live-action version of the late Jim Henson's beloved Fraggle Rock.
Variety reported the news on March 19. The Dark Knight star is working with New Regency, The Henson Co. and Lisa Henson in the production of this film.
Montecito Pictures was working on the project, but no longer is.
The movie is recreating the 1983 - 1987 HBO hit about cave-dwelling creatures called Fraggles. The show chronicled the adventures of the Fraggles, as they deal with Doozers and furry giants called Gorgs.
When discussing why choosing to work on the film with Lisa Henson, Levitt said, "The first screen personas I ever loved were [Jim] Henson creations, first on Sesame Street, and then on Fraggle Rock."
The 34-year-old is "confident" that the final product will be something that would make the late Seasame Street creator proud. "We can do something that Jim would have loved," he said.
The film has been in the works for over a decade. No date has been released regarding the premiere of the live-action film.
