Fox Searchlight is producing an American remake of the Swedish film Force Majeure, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in talks to join the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Louis-Dreyfus is in talks to join Force Majeure, Fox's remake of the Swedish film which was nominated for best foreign language film at this year's Golden Globes.
The original film, released less than a year ago, tells the story of a family staying at the French Alps. When an avalanche hits, the father abandons his family to try to save his own life, only for the avalanche to pass and the family to all survive. The film examines the aftermath of this and the repercussions his decision has on his relationship with his family. The original film was directed by Ruben Ostlund.
Louis-Dreyfus would presumably be playing Ebba, the mother character originally played by Lisa Loven Kongsli. Louis-Dreyfus is known mainly for her work on television on shows like Seinfeld and Veep. This will be a bit of a different role for her, more dramatic than anything she's done before, although the original film has some elements of comedy to it. It will be her first role in a film since starring in Enough Said with James Gandolfini.
For those interested in seeing the original Swedish film, Force Majeure is currently streaming on Netflix.
