Kraft Foods Group shares fell on Wednesday after the company recalled around 6.5 million boxes of macaroni and cheese.
As previously reported, the Illinois-based company announced the recall after customers complained about finding small pieces of metal inside some of the boxes. Kraft then voluntarily issued the major recall.
“We believe a piece of stainless steel got wedged in a metal piece of equipment, which may have generated friction that resulted in small pieces of metal potentially falling into the product,” company spokeswoman Joyce Hodel said in a statement.
The recall is for 7.25-ounce boxes of original flavor and the "best when used by" dates are between Sept. 18, 2015 and Oct. 11, 2015.
USA Today noted that after the recall, shares for Kraft were down 1.91 percent at $60.52.
Kraft has also been facing plenty of competition lately with so many other mac and cheese dinner brands to choose from.
The company has since apologized and is asking anyone who purchased the product to return it to the store they bought it from for a full refund.
