Madonna was recently dropped from BBC Radio 1. The reason for the radio station not playing her music was because her age wasn't reaching their target demographic.
UPROXX reported that according to the head of music for Radio 1, George Ergatoudis, explained that they are trying to lower the age of their listening audience and that Madonna's music is geared toward more 30 years old and over.
“The BBC Trust have asked us to go after a young audience. We’ve got to concentrate on [people aged] 15-30. We have to bring our average age down. That’s something we’re very conscious of,” said Ergatoudis. "The vast majority of people who like Madonna, who like her music now, are over 30 and frankly, we’ve moved on from Madonna.”
In a recent interview with The Sun Madonna addressed the issue and is fighting back saying that the radio station's decision is ageist, unfair and discriminatory.
