If you thought that Birdman was the last time Michael Keaton had a shot at winning an Oscar, thankfully, he has another prestige project on the docket. He will star in The Founder, a film about how the McDonald’s empire was built, which will open in November 2016.
The film showed up on Box Office Mojo’s schedule today, showing that The Weinstein company plans to release the film on Nov. 26, 2016. That’s not only Thanksgiving Day weekend, but also right in the middle of the awards season.
Keaton was linked to The Founder in January and will play Ray Kroc, the salesman who helped turn Mac and Dick McDonald’s burger joint into an international billion-dollar fast food chain.
The script is by Robert Siegel (Big Fan) and will be directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks). It reportedly has a very dark tone, similar to other films about a small business exploding. That also sounds like prime Oscar material.
Keaton won a Golden Globe for his performance in Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Birdman. While the film won Best Picture and three other Oscars, Keaton lost the Best Actor Oscar to The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne. Thankfully for his fans (which should include everyone), it looks like he will have another shot at glory.
