On March 10, the music video for Mike Will’s latest track on his album Ransom, “Choppin’ Blades” featuring Riff Raff and Slim Jxmmi, premiered on Vevo.
In 2014, Mike Will Made-It while working on his new solo album felt he had to have certain credentials. “I feel like my album has to be so eventful. It has to have classic collaborations,” he told Rolling Stone. Riff Raff falls under those guidelines with the release of “Choppin’ Blades.”
The six-minute video, marking Mike Will’s second official video on Vevo, opens with Houston, Texas native Riff Raff portrayed as a successful car salesman at Big Hanks dealership named Sharky McStevenson. In character, he explains how he became a success in the car business, making over 17 million dollars in sales. The majority of camera shots revolve around Mike Will aka Big Hank and Riff Raff, who sports pink hair and a fur-lined winter toboggan, on top of a roof, dancing in the automobile emporium’s lot, and selling cars to customers.
At last years VMA’s Riff Raff was seen with Katy Perry decked out in matching Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears inspired blue jean outfits. Their date went farther than just the awards show, since a remixed version of “This Is How We Do” featuring Riff Raff was released for promotional purposes, according to Billbard. The Prism singer must have had a lasting impact on Riff, since he’s rocking Katy Perry-like pink hair in his newest video.
The hook of the song repeated six-fold encompasses the overall theme, “I be flippin’ foreign/I be choppin’ blades.” Choppin’ blades, meaning owning a vehicle with colossal rims and low profile tires, is blatantly exemplified in almost every aspect of the explicit song visual. Even when the two are dancing on top of a roof, there’s a decked out Lamborghini with scissor doors that lift up like a switchblade. Mike Will advertised for his latest track through his Instagram account, including still images taken on set of the music video.
