NBC’s summer schedule is surprisingly filled with killers. The saga of Hannibal Lecter continues, while David Duchovny tries to hunt down Charles Manson. If reality shows are more your cup of tea, there’s also America’s Got Talent and American Ninja Warrior.
Ninja Warrior will kick off the summer on Monday, May 25 at 8 p.m. The two-hour show, which puts competitors through a challenging obstacle course, has been a surprising success for the network, averaging 5.9 million viewers last summer. It also averaged a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
Next, America’s Got Talent will be back on Tuesday, May 26 at 8 p.m. Howard Stern, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel are all returning, along with host Nick Cannon. The show averaged 11.6 million viewers and a 2.7 18-49 rating.
NBC is going to try out Hannibal during the summer this year, launching the third season on Thursday, June 4 at 10 p.m. The show, which stars Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, has survived low ratings thanks to its avid fanbase and critical acclaim.
The one new show NBC plans to launch this summer is Aquarius, which stars The X-Files’ David Duchovny as an LAPD detective investigating the disappearance of a lawyer’s daughter in 1967. He doesn’t know it right away, but eventually, the investigation will lead him to Charles Manson, played by Gethin Anthony (Game of Thrones). Other stars include Emma Dumont, Grey Damon and Claire Holt.
Aquarius starts with a two-hour episode on Thursday, May 28 at 9 p.m.
