An Ohio woman has been sentenced to life in prison after raping, beating, torturing and starving her four grandchildren.
It only took six hours for the jury to determine that 59-year-old Edwina Louis was guilty of rape, child abuse and kidnapping on her three granddaughters and one grandson, according to Inquistr.
“This woman, who never shed a tear or showed even an ounce of remorse, will never get out of prison. That’s the right thing,” Scioto County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Pat Apel said.
Judge William T. Marshall added that he had never “seen anyone more evil” during his 19-year career.
Child Services was called to the home in 2012 and 2013 on at least four occasions, where they found scratches and bruises on the children’s bodies. The children also complained that they had been kept locked up, chained to beds naked for weeks at a time and only allowed to be unchained long enough to attend school. They were also sexually assaulted, beaten with paddles and the refrigerator and freezer had locks on them that only the adults contained keys to, Daily Mail reports.
Louis’ daughter, Bobbi Sue Pack, 32, was convicted of sexually assaulting and torturing her children until they were “almost feral.” She was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison after pleading not guilty. Pack’s boyfriend plead guilty to charges of rape and child endangerment and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, Inquistr notes.
The children, including two girls aged 10 and 12 that testified at the trial, are now with a new foster family, who are able to give them the love and attention they need, Daily Mail notes.
“If there is a bright spot in all of this, it is the transformation we have seen from the kids,” Apel said. “Maybe now, they have a chance.”
