We're just over a month away from the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but of course this is Marvel, and so we already know their schedule of movies far beyond that. After Avengers we'll be getting Captain America: Civil War, and we now have a bit more information about that film.
According to Screen Rant, Captain America: Civil War will start shooting on April 1st, so in just under two weeks.
We also apparently have a plot synopsis for the film sent along with a casting call for extras, though it hasn't yet been confirmed as official by Marvel:
"Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion among the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies."
That basically lines up with our previous understanding of the movie. Based on the comic book storyline, the movie would involve the government instituting the Superhero Registration Act, requiring all superheroes to register themselves. This divides the Avengers team, with Iron Man on the side of the government and Steve Rogers fighting against them.
This will follow the events of Ultron, which will presumably end in a fair amount of death and destruction to make the government feel they must act. Robert Downey Jr. recently hinted at this, saying that in these movies so much destruction happens and then when it's over, nobody minds. He said this movie will attempt to answer the question of what the American government would do if this were real. What would their response to the existence of superheroes be?
Although Captain America: Civil War is a second sequel in the Captain America franchise, it's really far more than that. It's almost like another Avengers, with Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner also starring in the film, as we previously reported.
Captain America: Civil War will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It will also star Sebastian Stan, Daniel Brühl, Anthony Mackie, and Chadwick Boseman, debuting in his role as Black Panther. The film will be released on May 6, 2016.
For now, we can look forward to the next chapter of the saga with Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theaters on May 1.
