Good news for horror fans: they're here, or rather they'll now be here two months earlier.

According to Variety, Fox has pushed up the release of Poltergeist two months, from July 24 to May 22.

Initially it was thought that Fox was hoping to recreate the success of The Conjuring by releasing Poltergeist in July. It's possible Fox wanted to get the movie out there before many of the summer's biggest movies hit, hence the move to may. However, Poltergeist will now be opening against Tomorrowland, which has potential to be huge. Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2 will all also still be in theaters by the time Poltergeist opens.

Had the movie opened on July 24 as previously scheduled, its major competition would have been Pan, Disney's live action Peter Pan film starring Hugh Jackman, in addition to Sony's Pixels. It would also have opened just a week after Marvel's Ant-Man, and if Guardians of the Galaxy is any indication, that definitely has a chance of being number one at the box office two weeks in a row.

This actually isn't the first time Fox has moved Poltergeist around. It was originally scheduled for Feb. 13 and then pushed back to July 24, only to now be pushed forward to May 22, so Fox really just can't decide where this movie should go.

As we previously reported, Poltergeist will be a modernized version of the 1982 classic. According to producer Sam Raimi, the movie will explore the increased number of screens that surround us on a daily basis, giving the spirits even more pathways into our world.Lead actor Sam Rockwell has described the new movie as "more of a kids movie," as we previously reported.

Poltergeist will be directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz the Great and Powerful, Rise of the Guardians). It will follow the same basic plot of the original and star Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jared Harris.
