Over four months after Rolling Stone was forced to backtrack on an explosive story about a rape at the University of Virginia, the magazine is reportedly ready to publish the findings from its internal investigation.
In November, Rolling Stone published Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s story “A Rape On Campus,” which told the story of a woman named Jackie, who claimed to have been gang raped at a fraternity house in 2012. However, the report was quickly criticized, as it included no interviews with the men Jackie claimed attacked her.
Then, in December, the magazine said its trust in Jackie was “misplaced.” Later, Rolling Stone amended its apology, adding an apology directly to those “affected by the story.”
Rolling Stone later enlisted Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism’s Steve Coll to lead an internal investigation into the magazine’s editorial process. Managing editor Will Dana told The New York Times that Coll’s findings will be published “in the next couple of weeks.” CNN also reported that the report will be published in early April.
Meanwhile, NPR notes that the Charlottesville Police Department has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. today. The department will reveal what its investigation into the allegations in the Rolling Stone piece show.
