Authorities have suspended the search for a missing Virginia Tech student who fell from the Carnival Glory cruise ship over the weekend.
The Virginian-Pilot noted that the search for the 21-year-old male student has been called off. The student is said to have fallen overboard near Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas. Vance Gulliksen, a Carnival Cruise spokesman, said that video surveillance reviewed of the incident confirmed it.
The man was reported missing on Sunday and the search concluded Tuesday evening, the U.S. Coast Guard announced.
The name of the missing student has not been released to the public at this time, but authorities have contacted his family.
"We've been in contact with the next of kin, briefing them every day," Petty
Officer Jon-Paul Rios told NBC News. "But unless there's any kind of new development, we've decided to suspend the search."
The Carnival Glory ship had set sail for a seven-day Caribbean cruise out of Miami on March 7.
